These principles apply together. They help create a workplace and way of doing business that is trusted, fair and worthy of the relationships we hold.

This Code applies to all of us and also sets out what Mā Tātou expects of suppliers and partners.

Mā Tātou is committed to a workplace where all people are treated fairly, lawfully and with dignity. Employment and contractor contracts must be clear, in good faith, and consistent with New Zealand laws.

Forced labour, child labour, coercion and exploitation have no place at Mā Tātou or in the relationships we choose to maintain.

Mana-Aki requires a culture where people feel safe to contribute, belong and be heard. Discrimination, bullying, harassment and exclusion are not acceptable.

We value culture, identity, diverse perspectives and Te Ao Māori. Everyone is expected to treat others with respect and help create an environment where people can participate fully.

The safety and well-being of people comes before urgency or convenience. No piece of work is more important than the health and safety of those carrying it out.

All of us must understand and follow health and safety requirements, take practical steps to reduce risk, and report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly.

Mā Tātou respects the dignity and rights of all people. That includes fair work, non-discrimination, safe conditions, privacy, and access to safe channels for raising concerns.

We recognise international frameworks such as the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). These are reflected in recognising:

UNGP Pillar 1 — Duty to Protect: We operate within New Zealand's strong legal framework, complying with laws and the spirit of those laws including the Human Rights Act 1993, the Employment Relations Act 2000, the Privacy Act 2020, the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and the Bill of Rights Act 1990.

UNGP Pillar 2 — Corporate Responsibility to Respect: We treat all people we work with fairly and with dignity. We expect these standards to be upheld by everyone engaged with Mā Tātou.

UNGP Pillar 3 — Access to Remedy: We provide internal grievance mechanisms for employees and contractors to raise concerns without fear of retaliation, protected under the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022. If our actions cause or contribute to harm, we are committed to addressing it.

Trust is built through truthfulness and clear dealing. Mā Tātou must not misrepresent its work, results, relationships or capability, and records must be accurate and complete. When mistakes happen, they must be addressed openly and promptly.

Personal interests must not compromise, or appear to compromise, decisions made for Mā Tātou. Conflicts of interest must be disclosed early and managed properly.

This includes financial interests, close personal relationships, and outside roles or activities that could influence judgement.

For Executive Directors and Directors potential conflicts of interest are declared to the Company Secretary and disclosed & maintained in the Interests Register in compliance with the Companies Act 1993.

Koha, gifts and hospitality can be part of respectful relationships, but they must never create obligation or influence decisions. Anything that could reasonably be seen to influence a business decision must not be offered or accepted.

Cash or cash-equivalent gifts must always be declined.

Mā Tātou has zero tolerance for bribery, kickbacks, facilitation payments or improper inducements of any kind. Any offer of or request for such a payment or benefit must be refused and reported immediately to the Chief Risk Officer and the CEO.
